Food Security in Mesoamerica
The Mesoamerican Food Security Early Warning System Network (MFEWS) strengthens the ability of foreign countries and regional organizations to manage risk of food insecurity through the provision of timely and analytical early warning and vulnerability information.
Please visit the FEWS NET home page for more information about this group and their work. SERVIR posts several MFEWS products (below) and also provides additional products that may be used for Food Security. For example, click on the Realtime Image Viewer to animate images from the TOPS MODIS16-day Normalized Difference Vegetative Index (NDVI). NDVI can serve as proxy measure for productivity and is an important element in analyzing food security.
Click here to go the SERVIR data portal and type in the key words "Agriculture," "Food Security," and similar terms to download related data. Download SERVIR-VIZ to view the NDVI and other Realtime images relating to ecological production and weather.
