Short-term forecast for Mesoamerica
SERVIR produces short-term regional weather forecasts using the PSU/NCAR Mesoscale Model, known as MM5 in the atmospheric sciences community. The MM5 model generates 48 hour-forecasts once a day. Soil temperature, 2m surface temperature, 3 hour accumulated precipitation as an early warning, wind in different heights, and other variables are forecast hourly in 9km grids covering the Yucatan Peninsula to northwest Panama. These are posted on the website daily at 10:00 am CST.
Current and previous forecasts can be viewed, animated, and downloaded from the Realtime Image Viewer. MM5 forecasts can be overlayed with other regional weather products and datasets using the free 3D SERVIR-VIZ application. Click on the SERVIR Data Portal icon and type the in keywords "Weather" to view all related weather data products. Click here for specific details on MM5 model inputs and parameters.
