Short-term forecast for Mesoamerica
The SERVIR project, in collaboration with the NASA Short-term Prediction Research and Transition (SpoRT) Center, uses the Weather Research and Forecast Model (WRF) to produce short-term regional weather forecasts. The SpoRT/WRF model generates 24 hour-forecasts twice a day. Temperature, precipitation, wind, and other variables are forecast in 10km and 30km grids in an area covering the Yucatan Peninsula to Northern Colombia. These are posted on the website daily at 12:00 am and 12:00 pm CST.
Current and previous forecasts can be viewed, animated, and downloaded from the Realtime Image Viewer. WRF forecasts can be overlayed with other regional weather products and datasets using the free 3D SERVIR-VIZ application. Click on the SERVIR Data Portal icon and type the in keywords "Weather" to view all related weather data products. Click here for specific details on WRF model inputs and parameters.
